Here is a problem we run into frequently. A client will find a manufacturer that they love but they are missing or don’t carry their special extract, herb, color or whatever special ingredient. How do you handle this? Is this a deal killer?
Here are several possible solutions:
1. Be flexible. Maybe the chemist can find a substitute that will function the same in the formula.
2. Consider buying the special ingredient out right. Especially if it’s a small percentage of the formula. A lb. of herb, doesn’t have to be a deal killer. Talk to the manufacturer and see if they would consider either them purchasing it or you can buy it and send it to them.
3. Before you walk, see if there is a formula that they do make all day that will work.
Finding a manufacturer that you can have a long term relationship is just as important as your ingredient list. And if you have found a company that you love, I would examine all possibilities before I walked away from the deal. There are always options. 🙂
