I wanted to share this quick case study with you. This gave me life today!
One of my product development clients told me today that they have already had 4 sales before they have product in hand. They said it very casually at first because they were not impressed ( nature of entrepreneur’s.)
But listen, they do not have product yet! The product is still in production, and they have 4 sales from people that they don’t know.
It wasn’t their mom, or cousins or BFF’s. It was complete strangers who purchased directly from their website.
Let me show you how this happened, because it wasn’t an accident.
They aggressively implemented a strategy that I teach called seeding the market place.
Let me share the strategy:
1. Start your social media channels before you have product
They created their social media channels month 2 in the 6 month development phase. Before they had the product, they were posting and building followers on IG and Youtube. In 4 short months, they went from zero followers to close to 20K followers. They were consistent and aggressive with it but this strategy helped them create an audience who was anticipating the launch of the product.
2. Have fun
Their social media was an expression of their fun loving personalities. Even though they are professionals, it expressed their playful fun side and that resonated with their audience.
3. Build engagement
They showed up, often showing behind the scene type post and pictures of themselves living their life.
They also posted questions, asked engaging questions and responded back to the people who would comment.
4. Build anticipation
With the upcoming launch they built anticipation, having a count down, giveways and videos
And the result of all of this work? They have 4 sales before the the product is ready!
I told them today how proud I am of their hard work and cannot wait to see where they are in one year’s time!
How can you apply this to your brand?
- If you are a start up, start your social media now!
- If you have an existing brand, amp it up! Follow steps 2-4 and really work on creating buzz, engagement and anticipation.
- Four sales might not seem like much but that will quickly increase with their momentum already established on their social media channels.
